5 TIPS FOR BEAUTIFUL SNOW ROSES IN THE GARDEN
The Snow Roses from the Helleborus Gold Collection® – above all the Ice N' Roses® series – are especially long-lived, robust perennials. Unlike Christmas and Lenten Roses, they also thrive in sunny places. Despite their robustness, Snow Roses will of course also benefit from carefully planned planting and care. Here are five essential tips that help you get the best from your Snow Roses.
1. CREATE BEAUTIFUL VIEWS
When choosing a location, it is well worth taking a close look and thinking ahead. Ideally, take a look out of the window, because in the cold season you will most certainly want to enjoy the beautiful early bloomers from your favourite place in a warm room in your home.
However, you don't want to just think of the Snow Rose itself, but also of what’s next to them. Pick the place in the garden where the Snow Rose will be best able to unfold its full beauty over many years.
2. GOOD BASE
All varieties from the Helleborus Gold Collection® prefer rich and chalky soils, but will also thrive well in other locations that are not prone to waterlogging.
You can improve very light and sandy soils by working in some bark humus, Dolomite lime and horn meal. Instead of Dolomite lime, you can also use crushed eggshells.

3. GOOD NEIGHBOURS
In the garden, Snow Roses appreciate lasting companions, such as perennials that do not spread excessively or, like Snow Roses themselves, don’t bother adjacent plants. Other early flowering plants, such as witch hazel (Hamamelis × intermedia), winter jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum) or fragrant honeysuckle (Lonicera fragrantissima) provide a nice, colourful backdrop to Snow Roses.

4. LET THEM COME IN

5. KEEP COOL
When winter flowerers lay their flowers on the ground in frosty nights, they can, in fact, look dead. When this happens, just keep cool and resist your impulse to wrap the plant up with fleece. The plant's response is an entirely normal protective function. As soon as the temperature rises to above freezing, the plant will straighten out again.
There is no harm in leaving fallen tree leaves underneath the plants to protect the roots from major shifts in temperature. It is recommended to cut and remove any damaged leaves from the Snow Rose to avoid fungal diseases.
